Tricky: getting Irish visas for parents of Irish citizen

Post by a.s.b.o » Tue May 12, 2015 11:51 am

My parents reside in NI with me under the EEA FP. I want to apply and to get irish visas for them so that they can travel to Ireland frilly. I should seek entry, according to INIS at the 'port of entry'. Unconventionally, our port of entry and the relevant authority, is an officer alongside NI/IRL border (i.e. Monaghan, Donegal, Dundalk) as this border is landlocked.

Nothing in law prohibits us from presenting ourselves at the local Garda Immigration and to seek 3 months visitor stamp. We should also get it free. The officer at Dundalk flipped when presented with this complexity.

Can gurus suggest what are the problems with my logic as it sounds too good for the current day and age immigration complexity.

Thank you

I don't know how it would work tbh. However, if you get them residence cards from the UK Home Office (you said you live in NI) under the EEA regulations they won't need any kind of visa to enter Ireland at all.

Ok, catch 22. Today I visited GNIB HQ in Dublin only to be told that I need to speak to the local immigration officer, who "should do their job properly". Upon arrival to the local immigration officer's office, was told that "you will get nothing from him".

A complaint is already dispatched. I am doing this to test waters and to educate the power-holders. Will be posting on it in due course.
