I hold ILR (UK) card can I travel in Europe?

Post by jeremymdr95 » Fri Jun 19, 2015 3:30 pm

Hi,

My mother holds a British Citizenship and my half-sibling too! I currently hold a ILR (UK) and I was wondering if I can travel to Spain and Italy without a Schengen Visa, if my mother travels with me? My step father is also a British Citizen!

Best,

You will need a Schengen visa if you are from a country that would usually need one. ILR is only relevant in the UK, not in Europe.

nearly, Poland for example provide exemption for ILR.
But most do not give exemption for ILR.

TIMATIC database http://www.gulfair.com/English/info/pre ... ation.aspx
e.g. https://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_ ... user=GFB2C
Residence United Kingdom (GB) /Destination Poland (PL)
Poland (PL)

Visa required, except for A max. stay of 90 days for holders
:
or holding a passport containing an "Indefinite Leave to Remain in the
UK" or "Limited Leave to Remain in the UK".

Yes, I know there is one or two countries that do, but convincing an airline to allow you to board the plane will be interesting if you don't have a visa for your destination.

TIMATIC is the airline database. So you just ask them to check their own Visa requirement database.

But saying that.
Poland is the only country that allows this visa free entry to Schengen with UK ILR.
Whereas Czech Republic the only country that grants port visas to EU family members, even the EU Law says they all must.

That EU family members are supposed to be issued entry port visas, yet are not allowed to travel to the entry port, except for Czech.
That people with a permanent right to live in the UK, cannot travel within the EU or Schengen except via Poland shows how odd and illogical the whole EU administration is.
Remember the theory was, its supposed to be like the US for travel and freedom of movement.
