National Insurance Number on Visitor Visa

Post by iamwidi » Fri Nov 06, 2015 5:26 pm

I have just recently left the UK as my Tier 4 student visa ran out on the 30th of October. I'm now back in Australia, where I have been a permanent resident for 15 years however I hold an Indonesian Passport. I need to now apply for a visitor visa to return to the UK for my graduation on the 7th of December (I had an extension on my final project so have a delayed graduation which is past the length of my student visa).

A section of the Visitor Visa Application Form asks: Do you have a UK National Insurance Number?
I applied for one whilst I was a student in the UK as I intended to do part time work (though never ended up doing so) do I need to say that I do? It seems irrelevant for a Visitor Visa application and I'm only worried about admitting it because I don't want them to think I could be coming back to try and work? As I've only just finished uni/not even graduated yet, I don't have a job in Australia and my father (who is travelling with me) is fully funding the trip, I'm afraid this will raise questions?

If you don't say you have one and they check, it is withholding information or false representation or deception as you are not disclosing it when asked in the form.

If I haven't had my graduation yet, am I still considered a student? So could my employment status still be considered as a student? I have a letter from the university stating that I am a student and eligible to attend my graduation, (although it is a scanned copy as getting a copy by mail would take too long, should I include the email correspondence as well as evidence?) but technically I have completed my course. I feel like declaring myself as unemployed would raise questions

You are over-thinking this.
If you have a NIN, simply answer the question; tell the truth.

It can't be irrelevant for a visitor visa or why would the question be there.

HO will know you have a NIN anyway :!:

If it helps reassure you you can add an explanatory note about the NIN & your trip in a brief covering letter.
You can also emphasise you are not economically active if you think that helps.
