ILR vignette on expired passport - valid work documentation

Post by berco » Wed Dec 09, 2015 9:24 am

Hi all,
I was reading this thread http://www.immigrationboards.com/indefi ... 67550.html and I'm referring to the new requirement that was introduced last year where an ILR in an expired passport is no longer a valid work documentation.

I currently hold an ILR vignette in an expired passport and will be applying for a new job in February 2016. I assume this means that I will need to apply for a BRP in time for when the new employer checks for my valid work documentation.

However, I am applying for citizenship this month. I don't see the point of having to pay for a BRP as well. The only issue is that given the average processing time, it's very unlikely for me to get my citizenship approved by February. Will my application for citizenship suffice as a work document or will I have to apply for a BRP as well?

If it's the latter, should I apply for a BRP first then citizenship or can I apply for citizenship first, hope I get it by Feb and if I don't, then apply for a BRP? I just dont know if it is possible to get a BRP whily citizenship application is being processed.

Thanks for any advice.
Berc

Personally, I would apply for citizenship if you qualify and put off looking for a new job until the citizenship process has been completed. BRP applications can also take months.

Problem with that is my current job contract expires in Jan and it's my only source of income. I could potentially hold off a new job in Feb but there's still no guarantee I would get my citizenship approved by then.
The BRP application can take months but a receipt for applicatopn of BRP is accepted as valid work documentation, having read the thread I mentioned and the links in it.

I would prefer to avoid the BRP as well...it's just if anyone knows whether an application for citizeship will be considered a valid work document while youre waiting for the citizenship. Much like how an application for BRP is considered valid, whike you're waiting for them to process it.

I would guess that proof of an application for citizenship is not considered 'right to work' as citizenship is not a compulsory step or a right but a privilege and can be refused.

A couple of years ago I applied for a replacement BRP for my daughter after hers was stolen. It took 4.5 months and we had to cancel a holiday to South Africa while we waited.
