Travel with PR in old passport while BC in process

My partner who is a non EU with a PR in his expired passport wants to travel for emergency to his country after he applied for BC and submitted biometric 2 months ago. Would he faces any problems at Istanbul airport or Manchester airport when he returns back. His PR will expire in 2024 but his passport has already expired. He was issued a new one weeks ago and never used.

No issue if he travels on a valid passport and carries the expired passport too.

Why do you think there could be an issue?

Nothing in my mind but just he assumes he may take longer time to check out or will be asked for further documents, specially airports are more tight now than before and not all Passport Officers have a friendly approach.

He should have no issues.

The fact he has a BC application in progress is a non issue.

HO does not advertise to the world / airport staff about who all have applied for BC (or are granted BC).
So, no one except the nationality team knows that your partner has applied for BC!!
