Name change before applying for first Brisitsh Passport

Post by ZoltanG » Sun Apr 03, 2016 11:44 pm

Hi,

I have become a British Citizen a few weeks ago and I would like to change my name before applying for my first British Passport.
I need some advice what and how should I do? I have read many articles about it and still not totally clear. Is it enough If I make my own deed poll with my and 2 witnesses` signatures? Some webpage suggests that it is just a waste of time and money to officially enrol via the Royal Courts of Justice or make a deed poll by a solicitor or online deed poll companies. because the status of these forms are not more legal or better accepted by HM Passport Office.

What is the truth?

Thanks for your help in advance!

What is the name on any current foreign passport/s?
If there's a mismatch with the name you naturalised in then you risk entering a world of pain.

See forum 'sticky' post on this vital matter:

The name is the same on my Certificate of Naturalisation and on my current foreign passport (Hungarian). Actually I have never changed my name in my life yet. Simply I just want to anglicise my name.
