Taking British Citizenship (leaving Indian)

What happened if I got property and bank account in india.

Should I only take BC and keep my wife with Indian
so that I can transfer my property to her and I can take a dependent
visa for India.

Any + - points between dependant visa and OCI card?

What if you and your wife divorce or split up? She's going to have all your property you'll end up with nothing. Not a good idea.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

My dear friend Ajay,
I remember you asking nonsensical questions re: the relative virtues of British and Indian nationalities not that long ago. I had advised you at that point to research the option of getting an OCI card. Had you taken up my advice, you wouldn`t be back here asking further nonsensical questions on the same topic..

Non resident Indian are not allowed to hold certain types of bank accounts in India, including domestic FDs, savings accounts etc. Being an NRI with an Indian passport does not change things in this respect. However, if you are an OCI based in India (judging by the title of your post that's probably what you are planning to do) you'd have access to all types of accounts as long as you manage to obtain an Indian photo ID (easy to sort out as you are born in India and could obtain a driving license or something without much hassle)

Also,an OCI has the same rights to property ownership (except agricultural land) as any other Indian national..

ajayjain, I understand your problem. I know a lot of Indian/Pakistani couples here who have chosen for one partner to retain their original Asian citizenship. And this goes back decades.

thirdwave explains it well and with useful links.

Dawie, we Asians tend to worry less about the wife running away ;)

Not so much an issue for Pakistanis as Pakistan allows dual citizenship.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

:D , that's true OL7MAX.
Actually I do not wanted to take BC but as I have started my own consulting co. and sometimes i get offer from EU countries so better
I should take BC so that i can travel EU Countries easily.

I got some other things in mind :wink:
I think in future India will allow to keep both passports
so I do not want to cancel my Indian passport just take a dependant
visa and then I can go to india whenever i want.
well after retirement i would like to settle back in India :)
as now I am based here in UK so i will not go to india more than 1-2 months or I will go to india forever.
I was looking on the Naturalisation fees is around £650 for single app. and £750 for joint, so again thinking to apply for both (husband & wife)
