I am in need for some help. I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right section of the forum but here is my question:
I have been gathering documents for the past two months in order to register with the General Dental Council in the UK. I am a Croatian national looking to apply via the exempt person route. My primary qualification is Doctor of Dentistry obtained in a non EEA country - Serbia. In the process of completing the application forms I came across a section which the GDC was not willing to help with stating that the matter is in the jurisdiction of the European Dental Directive.
The issue I came across was with the comparison of dental qualifications as set out in the European Directive 2006/36/EC in relation to primary dental training. Whilst my dental training course has 13 subjects more (total of 51 subjects) then the subjects outlined in ANNEX 1 - Extract from directive 2005/36/EC - Article 34, I am missing basic subjects such as chemistry, physics and biology as well as physiotherapy. I understand that one or more subjects may be thought in the context of the other disciplines or in conjunction, but without a clearly outlined subject summary I am unsure how to cross relate the subjects. Another example of this are subjects radiology and anesthesiology which consists throughout nearly all of our course subjects. Dissecting them will mean greatly reducing hours of medico-biological subjects and general medical subjects which in turn are necessary for the subjects to be approved.
Has anyone had success with their application an if so, how did you sort out your subjects and hours? I don't understand why the GDC won't advise me on this matter as they are the ones making the course syllabus not the European Dental Directive.
Thank you.
