Can I (UK citizen and sponser of spouse) work abroad (for just a few months) while my spouse is in UK?

Post by Justwanttoknow » Fri Dec 15, 2017 11:10 am

Hello everyone,

I have been doing a lot of lurking recently and have found some very helpful advice here. However I did not find the answer to the above question: Can I (UK citizen and sponser of spouse) work abroad while my spouse is in the UK with a spouse visa?

I don't want to work long term away from the UK, however I would love to either work a ski season at a lodge, work a summer at a surf camp or volunteer somewhere for a few months.

My partner and I are in the process of deciding the best way to proceed with them becoming a british citizen and we are thinking about getting married. Before we do this and apply for a spouse visa we want to make sure we know what we are getting into.

Many thanks for all the advicr on this forum and for any answers I get.

No. I got my visa refused even though I stated that my husband worked in both the UK and Gibraltar for a UK company and his main residence was actually the UK.

I submitted a new application when my husband cut ties with Spain/Gibraltar completely, but they refused my visa again (and detained me) because they were not satisfied that my husband would be 100% in the UK. That means you cannot sponsor the visa if you intend to leave the country temporarily.
