Naturalisation - residence documentation (passport gap)

Post by IB2019 » Wed May 29, 2019 10:38 pm

My partner (USA) was recently granted ILR and is almost ready to submit his application for Citizenship. I understand we need to provide evidence of lawful residence for the past three years, but he has two passports:
  1. Expired 25 July 2017
  2. Issued 03 August 2017
He didn't work during 2017, and we have no letters at all dated between those two dates. We haven't travelled anywhere during the relevant period (the last time we left the country was September 2015), so his current passport has no stamps or visas.

Is it reasonable to assume that a lack of an active passport infers an inability to leave the country, and hence he continued to reside in the UK for 8 days?

(Of course, if one or both passports were missing, then there would be no method to discern continued presence in the UK for those missing periods without other means.)

You state partner. Are you married or unmarried? What is your UK immigration status?

Passports unlikely to be an issue.

Thank you for the prompt response.

Married, and I'm a natural-born British Citizen.

Should be fine then. No additional documents required.
