Naturalisation question

Post by Muhammadmohsin » Thu May 30, 2019 10:15 pm

I am a doctor living in the UK since Sep 2008. I was working on tier 2 visa and was joined by my wife and daughter (16 months of age at that time) from July 2009. My other daughter was born in the uk.

My wife was my dependent until May 2013 when she got a training post as a doctor for which she needed her own tier 2 visa.

I got ILR along with my daughter who was born abroad and my younger daughter got naturalisation and British passport.

When I applied for my naturalisation with my elder daughter, I was granted citizenship but my elder daughter could not get it as my wife did not have ILR.

Now my wife is eligible to apply for ILR and after that I am planning to apply for my elder daughter’s naturalisation.

With this background in mind, I have been told that I cannot apply for my daughter’s naturalisation on her own and she can only apply when my wife is applying for her naturalisation. How far is this correct and whether I can apply for my daughter’s naturalisation separately as soon as my wife gets ILR?

I would appreciate if you could guide me about this.

If she is under 18, she can apply on form MN1 once your wife gets ILR. One parent must be British or applying and the other must have ILR for children born abroad to apply.
