Automatic citizenship for Australian-born with Scottish father?

Hello,

I have a question on eligibility for British citizenship on behalf of a friend.

She was born in Australia in 1982 to a Scottish-born father and an Australian-born mother. Her parents were married at the time, and the father still held British citizenship. My friend has resided in the United States for the past ten years.

Is she likely to be a British citizen by descent and, therefore, eligible to automatically apply for a first British passport?
