Question on medical examination

Post by mxdx21 » Sun May 15, 2005 2:50 pm

Hi guys. Recently received approval from the Canadian Embassy to have a medical. My family have applied to emigrate from the UK.
I have a quick question about the medical, which I am due to take shortly. Please could anyone confirm whether you have to take a drugs test as part of the medical?
From looking at the webpages I note that the principal reasons for taking the medical is to ensure that you are not a health risk to the public and you will not be an excessive demand on the Canadian health services. I could not find any specific reference to the medical involving a drug test. Many thanks for your help.

The medical involves both urine and blood tests - either and/or both will show up any substances legal or otherwise in your system. What drug is of concern here?

Thank you for replying Kayalami.
I recently went away with friends to Amsterdam and I smoked a little whilst I was there, it will definitely be within 3 months of my medical exam. I'm not a drug addict or anything and I have a clean criminal record, it was just the novelty of being on holiday.
Is this likely to mess things up for me? If it does, I don't think my family would ever forgive me.
Thank you again for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

Go through yellow pages and find section on drugs/addiction counselling etc...it may be that they have more info about how long such remains in your system. If it will still be an issue then its a case of you explaining the same to the designated medical practitioner with a potential consequence being Citizenship and Immigration Cnada wanting more background info on you. Of course you can request CIC to postpone your medicals - only the principal applicant can request such and even then must have a solid reason. Risk of postponing medical test is that your security checks may expire. I hope you can learn from the experience.

Good luck
