supporting documents questions: self-employed, british spouse

Post by rabbitassociation9 » Thu Mar 30, 2023 7:18 pm

Hi, I have 4 questions regarding my supporting documents for my naturalisation application. Hopefully someone can advise.

I am EEA citizen, have held settled status for over a year, so I can apply on my own right. I filled the application form and for supporting documents it's asking a few things I am unsure about:

1. "One proof of British citizenship for XXX (such as a passport or UK citizenship certificate)"
Q: Is this evidence compulsory? My husband just received his citizenship so his certificate has been sent to passport office for his first passport.

2. Q: I don't think I was asked anywhere in the form whether I am applying on my own right or as the spouse of a British citizen... so where do I state this?

3. I am self-employed and it's asking "...most recent tax year account statement and corresponding HMRC tax return as proof of self-employment"
Q: the terminology confuses me, online people also talk about SA302... Looking at HMRC online, I can download "tax calculation" and "tax return" (which is watermarked to not send to HMRC). are these the correct documents?

4. Finally, the document lists 'Proof of living'. I have been advised by others to use the tax records mentioned above, is that genuinely enough? It specified that bank statements are not accepted, so as self-employed I don't have much else.

Thank you in advance to anyone who can help out :)

Presumably you stated you are married to a British citizen. In that case the system assumes you are applying as spouse. If you don’t want this then just don’t provide the docs and enclose a note you are applying on the 5 year route.
2. Q: I don't think I was asked anywhere in the form whether I am applying on my own right or as the spouse of a British citizen... so where do I state this?
There’s no box to tick for this. Your note will do that.
Yes they are the documents.
4. Finally, the document lists 'Proof of living'. I have been advised by others to use the tax records mentioned above, is that genuinely enough? It specified that bank statements are not accepted, so as self-employed I don't have much else.
It’s the same as for number 3. Slightly confusing wording. It’s residency you prove. So you’ll be ok
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help out :)
