update received this email from home office as a response to a complaint i sent:
Thank you for your email correspondence of 17, 23 December 2024 and 06 January 2025. I am conducting an independent review of your complaint following your further submissions.
Your complaint
Further to our correspondence in relation to the delay in reaching a decision on your Naturalisation as a British citizenship application. You have stated that you applied for Naturalisation on 20 January 2024 and you are very disappointed with how the Home Office is handling your application. You say it has been almost a year and you would like come clarity on your case instead of constant generic replies as it has been mentally draining waiting on a decision. You further state you are now feeling frustrated and would like clear answers as to why you application is taking so long.
My decision
Having investigated your concerns, I can confirm as previously advised the approval of a British citizenship application is not an automatic process. We must make a number of enquiries to ensure that applicants satisfy statutory requirements of the British Nationality Act 1981 and the policy which governs decisions taking using this Act. Some enquiries can sometimes take longer than anticipated, and therefore some applications may take longer than six months to decide.
We appreciate this will be frustrating, however, it is not possible to proceed to decision while any such enquiries remain outstanding and there is nothing we can do to speed up the process.
However, further to the above, I can confirm the additional background checks carried out on your application are now complete and records show your application for Naturalisation as British Citizen has been concluded on 08 January 2025.
The decision notification letter has been dispatched to you via Royal Mail post on 15 January 2025 to the following address:
Additionally, the invitation letter to attend the citizenship ceremony will be sent to you by email within two weeks of the decision notification date. Once received, you may proceed to book a citizenship ceremony with your Local Authority (LA).
We do advise not to contact your local authority until you receive a Citizenship Ceremony Invitation Letter confirming that your certificate has been despatched to the authority and that you should approach them to book a ceremony.
Your continued patience and understanding has been greatly appreciated.
I hope my response has answered your concerns and clarifies the position in this matter.
While I understand this may not be the outcome you had expected, there are no grounds to warrant further consideration of your case and I am satisfied with the decision not to uphold your complaint.
