Are there any 2022 Citizenship Applicants still waiting?

Post by CA2IE » Mon Feb 17, 2025 5:32 am

I am a June 2022 on-paper citizenship applicant, and am wondering if there is anyone left besides me!!??
The new online portal still shows "Application in Process", but the last modified date still shows the day and time that I registered for the portal, November 22, 2024. That tells me that nobody has even accessed my application in the past 3 months since November when I registered (it is currently February 16, 2025) and leads me to believe that MOST LIKELY *nothing at all* has even been done with my application in the past 2 years & 9 months since I applied in June 2022. My solicitor told me that their office had been advised by Immigration that it is now taking average 30 months for the old paper applications, that was 6 months or so ago.

Is there anyone else from 2022 still waiting? I'm starting to feel very lonely!

I am sure there are 2022 applicants still waiting. My application submitted in April 2021 is still pending. At this point I believe my only hope is posthumous Irish Citizenship if the Ministry has mercy on my soul.

Thanks htwhtg... The original 2022 timeline forum was closed for inactivity, which leads me to believe that most, if not all have received their decision and yet here I am still out here languishing! Good to know there are still others out there from 2021 & 2022! Best wishes for YOU and that we both receive good news PRE-posthumously!

I was a April 2022 also, techncially invited to ceremony last December but delayed it and did the one now in Feb.

I can't speak for your case, but I had used a lawyer so they wrote to them and they finally sent me a link for the evetting and finally after a little bit things got going. I recieved confirmation they got my case but nothing else.

I have heard writing yourself works also but having paid for a lawyer when I am a pretty easy case was good to actually get something worthwhile out of it.

I applied in May 22 and just did my ceremony last month.

Completed vetting for the first time in Oct 23, again in summer 24 because they'd let the first one expire. They promised in the email to then proceed 'as a priority' then went dark for months again.

When the following Oct rolled round and I saw 24 applicants beginning to be approved, I lost patience and filed a Freedom of Information request asking to see everything they'd done in the past year, and put them on notice I intended to proceed to Judicial Review by year end.

A month went by, and on the last day before the FOI time window expired, they wrote to say the application was approved and did I still want to proceed. Letter arrived the following day.

I'd give FOI a go, it's free and at the very least will force someone to dig your file out of the dungeon and have a look at it.

Best of luck, shouldn't be long now

A lot of 2022 applicants are still waiting. I've even heard some from 2021 are waiting.
These aren't necessarily complex cases (e.g. years stamp 1+4 on CSEP, no convictions or immigration issues in past).

For those applicants awaiting the new guidelines for descent/associations applications, the new guidelines were posted by Irish Dept of Justice yesterday, Apr 2, 2025.

"In the interests of clarity and transparency officials in ISD have developed guidelines which can be consulted by those making applications on the basis of Irish Associations under Section 16(1)(a) of the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act 1956. The guidelines will provide greater clarity to applicants regarding the rationale applied by the Minister in considering such applications and in making a decision.

All Irish Associations applications pending a decision will be assessed according to these guidelines. Applicants who wish to provide further information to support their applications are invited to do so by registering on our Customer Service Portal. However officials will be writing to all applicants over the coming weeks inviting further submissions."

You can get a copy of the guidelines at the web site.

Thank you htwhtg. I don't know if the forum will permit me to post the direct link to the recently clarified guidelines for association/descent applicantions, but here it is:

Thanks, CAZIE
I am 74 years old and don't have a 10-year-old living with me. I don't know how to do that fancy stuff on the computer.
