Citizenship calculator and reckonable residence

Post by CatBrom » Mon Nov 24, 2025 10:45 am

Hi everyone,

I have been residing in Ireland for 10 years now, although most of that was for studies and that is not reckonable for residence for me (non-EU).

I had a Stamp 1G for two years, and now I have a TEU 50 (I think they're called Stamp 4D now?) that I received in 2023 after I married my husband who is a British citizen but lives in Ireland.

When applying for citizenship, can I count my Stamp 1G towards it or can I only use my TEU 50 residence?

Note: Periods spent on Stamp 1G either as a Graduate Student or a Spouse/de facto partner of a Critical Skills Employment Permit holder or a Spouse/de facto partner of Researchers in the State on Hosting Agreements are considered as reckonable residence for the purpose of making an application for Citizenship/Naturalisation.

I know they count as reckonable residence. My question is about how reckonable residence is calculated when you've spent time on different permissions. If I am on a Stamp 4D now (which I received in 2023), does the time previously spent on the 1G count towards my 5 years? Because naturalizing under the 1G stamp is a different length of time than on a 4D stamp.
