Change Ceremony Location

Post by mapleuk1 » Tue May 05, 2026 12:47 pm

Hi There,

I received approval, but when i tried to book the ceremony its showing some very far location.

Although i sent email to home office to transfer record to a nearest council, can someone reply the direct contact no of home office so i can speed up the process to avoid delay due to a upcoming travel.

Appreciate any other useful tip or advise in this case.

Regards.

You need to ask the council to advise them you wish to change council for the ceremony.
They will return your certificate to the Home Office. What happens after that I'm not sure.
There's no guidance on this. Did you live in that council area or did the Home Office make a mistake.
I would expect Home Office to contact you. Unfortunately this adds extra time. It's very difficult (or impossible) to track down HO employees dealing with specific topics, we only have the email addresses which have been used by members here, mainly for general inquiries.

Here's a list of email addresses which may be useful:
furthernationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk
NationalityEnquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk
citizenship.Support@homeoffice.gov.uk
NationalitySupportTeamFMT@homeoffice.gov.uk
furthernationalityenquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk
complaints@homeoffice.gov.uk.
public.enquiries@homeoffice.gov.uk

You can travel at any time between now and the day of the ceremony, that's not an issue. You only are a British citizen once you receive the naturalisation certificate.

Thankyou @alterhase58 and @lolo2 for your response.

I have not moved my home but just because i live in the same county, I am given a place which is quite far to attend the ceremony.

I need to check how long this will take to response. The near ones are in different councils which i requested for transfer.

Regards,
Prashanth

It can take a few weeks to months for the certificate to be transferred between councils.

The current council will need to transfer the certificate back to the Home Office, then the Home Office will need to transfer it over to the correct council office.

You may be better off attending the ceremony in the far away council office.

Check with the council if a citizenship ceremony can be held in an office that is closer to you. They may be able to arrange a private citizenshoip ceremony for an additional fee. And because it is still the same council, just a different office, there should be no delay caused by passing it back to the Home Office.

I am thinking the same, worse case attend it although its a matter of great inconvenience. Not sure why portal displays such a far location.
