Referees

Post by sindhu19191 » Wed Jun 10, 2026 10:45 am

Hi,

My husband and I are applying for British naturalisation on the same account as in, I filled the form as the primary applicant and then added my husband as an additional applicant under "Partner 18 or older", so our applications are linked together.

My neigbours next door have agreed to be our referees. So my question is, would this be ok?
Referees for myself:
Referee 1: My previous company CEO (professional)
Referee 2: My neighbour

Referees for my husband:
Referee 1: My neighbour's husband (who also lives at the same address, they've been married for 25 years) - He works as Head of Customer Care for a limited company. (professional)
Referee 2: Engineering Team Lead in my husband's company.

All four referees have known me and my husband for over 5 years and all have British passport.

Questions:
1) My referee 2 is related to my husband's referee 1, is this ok given we're applying together?
2) Who can I consider as professional referee for my husband? Should professional referees be the first referee?

Thanks in advance!

That's fine as long as the two referees for the same application are not related. You could even use the same 2 referees for both applications. All we can advise on professional referees is to try and pick from the recognised professions list.
All advice comes from personal research and experience and should not be regarded as professional opinion.

It doesn't matter. As long as you attach both.
