British Child Passport

Post by Amardeep » Tue Jun 16, 2026 10:18 am

Hi Team,

I'm looking for advice regarding my child's first UK passport application.

HM Passport Office has contacted us requesting additional information, including:

A signed and dated explanation of why my child is not applying for a passport from their country of birth.
At least two documents showing my child's current UK address.
The original full birth certificate showing both parents' details (with a certified English translation if applicable).

However, I'm confused because we already submitted the following original documents with our initial application, and HM Passport Office confirmed they had received them:
  • Original Indian passport
  • Expired Indian passport
  • Original full birth certificate
  • Original UK Certificate of Registration (British citizenship)
Despite already sending the original birth certificate, they have requested it again.
  • What explanation should we provide for not applying for a passport from your child's country of birth?
  • Why would HM Passport Office ask for the birth certificate again after confirming they had already received it?
  • What documents should we use to prove your child's UK address, particularly if child is young (8 years old) and has limited documents in their own name? - We are thinking of School letter for enrolment and attendance records. What else we can provide (Not sure if Visa permit - Settled status still valid to share depite he already obtained British Citizenship)
I'd really appreciate your prompt response.

Thank you.
