Question about English language exemption for British citizenship

Hi everyone,

I was granted ILR on 08/07/2025 through the Skilled Worker route. My daughter, who is now 18 years old, was granted ILR at the same time.
She completed her GCSEs in the UK and has recently finished her A-levels, although her results have not yet been released.
Does she need to provide evidence of her English language ability when applying for British citizenship? I noticed on the GOV.UK website that one of the exemptions from the English language requirement is for an adult dependent of someone who is present and settled in the UK. Would this exemption apply to my daughter?

This exemption doesn't apply for naturalisation.
She needs to pass the B1 English test. School qualifications are not accepted for citizenship.

Naturalisation and registration as British citizens are separate procedures, under different laws, rules and requirements and not a part of the immigration pathway, which ends at ILR.

Even if your child was exempt from some requirements at the ILR stage, those exemptions will almost certainly not carry over to naturalisation or registration as a British citizen.

As your child is already past her 18th birthday, like you, she will need to meet all the same requirements of an adult, including both the English language requirement and the LITUK test.

The exemption to the English language requirement would be if she has completed a degree course from a UK university. GCSEs and other qualifications lower than a degree course do not count.
