MN1 registration query – child of naturalised British parents

I’m seeking advice on the correct MN1 route for my 14-year-old daughter. She was born in India on 6 September 2011, arrived in the UK in September 2019, has lived and been educated here since, and was granted ILR on 2 July 2025. I became a British citizen by naturalisation on 20 May 2025, and my wife became a British citizen by naturalisation on 26 August 2026. Neither of us was British or British by descent when our daughter was born; both became British through naturalisation after her birth. On the online MN1 form, I’m unsure which category to select. “One or both parents is applying for British citizenship” leads to questions about a parent applying for naturalisation and then asks for grandparent details through whom the parent derived citizenship by descent. “Other – apply at the discretion of the Home Secretary” also leads to the same grandparent question. Neither seems applicable to us. Should my daughter apply under Section 3(1) of the British Nationality Act 1981, and if so, what should I enter for the grandparent details when neither parent was British by descent? Is selecting “I do not know these details” appropriate? Has anyone been in a similar situation and successfully completed the MN1 application?

She applies under the "other" category. It is the only one that applies to her circumstances

You do NOT need to put anything for grandparents details.

Thanks, I was also thinking that, but why this grandparent query is coming in my case. Is it a generic form.

It is a generic form. The same form is used for many different types of applications, some where grandparent details are required.

There is nothing unique or special about your case!!
