asylum seekers work permit

Post by unknowna1 » Wed Jan 21, 2009 3:13 pm

I am an assylum seeker and seeked assylum in feb 08, i have still not heard anything regarding my case from HO yet, still not been allocated a case owner yet even and still not been invited for an interview yet

I have been advised by someone that if after a year and i still not heard anything regarding my claim, i could apply for a work permit and will be given one.

How true is this?

If you havent received a response by next month, Feb 2009, which is exactly one year since your initial claim, you can apply for permission to work & they will normally grant this. Your ARC will be reissued to show EMPLOYMENT ALLOWED.

This will allow you to work wherever you can find a job until your case is concluded.

Getting the right to work is not automatic after one year. It very much depends on your circumstances and what country you are from.
There is no appeal process if the right to work is refused.
