Questions about UK Visa for Spouse

Post by Auditor » Thu Feb 05, 2009 12:51 pm

Hello there,

I am a UK citizen but have been living and working in the USA for the past 5+ years.

I recently got married and my wife is of Pakistani citizenship.

I have two questions:

1. What type of visa do I need to apply for so that I can take her to the UK to visit my relatives (prefreably one that I can use for multiple visits and not one that expires after a month or two)?

2. Could she apply for residency or citizenship of the UK if we are not currently residing there and don't know when we will move back?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated!!!

1 A visit visa. They're all multiple entry now.

2. If you're not living here she won't be issued a spouse visa, and she can only obtain citizenship through residence.

Do you know how long the visit visa is valid for? 6 months, 1 year, 2 years?

Someone was telling me there is multi-year visit visa I could get for my special circumstance so that I wouldn't have to get a new visa for my wife every 6 months.

Anyone ever heard of this?

Multi visas are not normally given on 1st application. Once a person has been to the UK 2/3 times and can show they have returned back to their country within the 6 months period, its only then they can apply for MV,and usually get them.
