will travelling affect my ILR application?

Post by xoliem » Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:38 pm

Hie

Im hoping to travel for 2-4 months next year and i was wondering if this would affect my application for ILR when i apply in 2012? I am currently on a work permit which expires in 2012 and i have travelled home for 2-3 weeks every year for the past 3 years. If my travelling does affect my ILR application would i be able to apply for another wotk permit?

Thanks

2012 is too far away in HO terms and a lot can change.
As things stand at the moment you should ensure:
1. no more that 225 days away from the UK in 5 years (some would say no more than 180 days just to be safe)
2. no continuous absences of more than 90 days (i.e. no trip abroad for over than 90 days)
3. No more than 90 days away each year (some would argue this is not necessary)

Keep these rules and you should be fine but as a i said, by the time you can apply for ILR it can all be different.

It's very hard to say what the WP rules would be in 3 years. I would suggest to keep your time out of the UK to a minimum to increase your chances of renewing WP or applying for ILR
