Validating Marriage Certificate from India?

Post by mr_pankaj » Fri Feb 20, 2009 11:10 am

Hello All,

I have moved to Switzerland (I am a naturalised UK citizen) and is trying to initiate the dependenat permit process for my wife too.

I had been to the local Migration office in Zurich and showed them our marriage certificate from India. They suggest if I can get a letter/document from UK, saying that the Marriage Certificate is accepted in UK then only Swiss migration office will be able to accept that Marriage Certificate and process the dependant permit.

So you guys know, It is the same Marriage certificate based on which my wife got ILR/PR along with me 4-years back. Also, I showed them my child's birth certificate from UK (he is a UK citizen by birth), which has mother's name, but they would not agree to that either.

Could someone please suggest me a body in London that would validate our marriage certificate before I can produce it to the Swiss migration office?

thank you

I doubt whether there is any UK authority that would consider themselves competent or willing to certify an Indian document. You need to approach the Indian authorities, and you might as well try the Indian Embassy in Switzerland.
