Hi guys :D ,

I have 1 query heere. I just wanted to know whether there is a difference between student dependent visa and work permit. Actually, my husband is on student visa this sep and I am coming on a student dependent visa. I also can come on work permit to UK but it will delay my travel by 6-7 months. My husband says that coming on a student dependent visa I can work in UK fore 2 yrs with same privileges as a work permit holder. IS IT TRUE??????? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?
Pleaseeee anyone give me advantages and disadvantages of working with a student dependent visa and workpermit. Which visa has more chances of getting me a job in UK?? Or Do both have same privileges? :D :idea:s Please...

No! You will have more flexibility on a student dependent visa, the ability to work for anyone. Whereas on a WP you only have the right to work for the one specified employer.

The potential downside to a student dependent visa is that ..... yes you have guessed .... you are dependent! That is, if for any reason your husband loses his student visa then you also lose your ability to stay in the UK.

But considering the more medium term, after your husband has eventually finished studying, would the plan be to leave the UK, and alternatively, maybe to stay here?

I think work permit (wp) holder can change employer presently and restriction to work with specific employer was abolished.

Apart from being visa aholder on its own right, on wp one can work FULL TIME. Also wp holder is entiled to apply for INDEFINITE LEAVE after 5 YEARS. So to me, wp visa seems more davantageous than the student dependent visa.

Hi,

Tier-1 is second only to the Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK. I dont know what your long term plans are, but if you are considering moving to the UK long term, it is definitely worth the wait for a tier-1. The rules however are changing and you might want to find out whether you / your husband qualify for a tier 1.

Cant advise much on student visa though.

Only if the Tier 2 (Work Permit) is transferred to the new company. The company that you are full-time employed with MUST be the holder of your Work Permit.
