Polish Wife & US Husband w/ Dual Citizen son going to th

Post by doctor_who_US » Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:10 pm

Hello.

I have been married to a Polish woman for 4 years come June. She is pretty close to getting her greencard, she's been a permanent resident for awhile. We have a son who is 16 months and he has dual-citizenship to Poland.

I, on the other hand, am just an United States Citizen. We are thinking of moving to the England or Wales. Not sure which, as they are both lovely countries.

All three of us currently live in New York City.

So, we would like to know what's the best options we have before going to the UK embassy here in NYC. Knowing something before hand will prevent them giving us the run-around.

Thanks in advance for any information.

What you will want to apply for is an EEA Family Permit.

Have you gotten a Polish passport for your son yet?

Thanks for responding.

We haven't gotten it for him, yet. But, we will before we move. I know it will take some time.

From the link you provided, it seems easy enough. Lets just hope it is when we go and try it.

Greencard is permanent residence.

Do you mean that she is close to getting her American citizenship?

She has her green card, my mistake. She's thinking about getting American citizenship.

..

Can my family members work in the UK?
A family member of an EEA national who intends to travel with them or join them in the UK can work without a work permit. Family members are generally not required to register under the Worker Registration Scheme or comply with the special requirements for Bulgarian and Romanian workers. The EEA national must be a 'qualified person' in the UK.
According to the above Q & A; I, a US citizen, can work in the UK without a work permit because my wife is from Poland? Am I missing something or just not reading that right? She has two master degrees from Poland in chemistry and polymers.

That's correct.

Also, if she is close to being able to apply for US citizenship, and the need to move isn't urgent, it may well be worth it for her to naturalize first; it would save you a lot of time and money and stress should you decide to re-locate to the US again in the future.
