married in kenya, not in valid in Netherlands

Post by amsterdamse » Sat Apr 25, 2009 2:21 pm

For 6 years i am dating a Kenyan man, he came to the Netherlands several times and i went to see him about twice a year.

Soon i will move to london for work and hope that my husband can join me under eea family law. But it will take months under dutch law to legalise my marriage. But we have a kenyan registry marriage cerficate.

Will it be good enough to get the eea family visa? Or is it better to legalise the marriage first here or in London? Any ideas?

Your hubby can apply from the British High Commission in Kenya for an EEA family permit once you are in the UK. The Kenya marriage certificate is acceptable, so don't worry. :)

Dear Rozen

Thanks for your reply. It makes me very happy to hear that it can be done. Now he just need to renew his pasport and i need to move my stuff for my new job. Well just need to wait for some paperwork from my boss before i can move. Will stay in Brixton with a friend and move to somewhere else. Cann't wait.

Good Luck Amsterdamse! And if you do decide to return to The Netherlands with your hubby after having worked in the UK, at least he won't need to apply for the dreaded MVV, nor do the language test!
