Married while on a work permit?

Hello,

I am a british citizen and am about to marry a Zambian citizen who has been working in the UK for a number of years on a work permit. She is eligible to apply of residency in August 2010.

Can we marry while she is on her work permit and then obtain her residency in August?

Yes, she'll need to apply for a CoA tho, which is free ATM.

Here's the thing....We both live in the UK I am a citizen and she is here on a work permit. We plan to get married in Zambia before returning to live in the UK...Do we still need a CoA?

Nope!

U might need to inform HO u plan to marry abroad - this is true for spouse but as ur wife to be is not using the spouse visa route I'm not sure u need to inform HO.

Wait for others more knowledgeable.

No need to inform Home Office about getting married in Zambia, we got married in Malawi and did not have to.

I'm marryig a Zambian in Zambia so just want to check details...it would be such a drag to discover while in Zambia that I should have sorted something before I left!

The Home Office have stated their intention to make this a regulation for spouse marriages outside of the UK...but it hasn't been introduced yet...and may never be.
