Post by ashubhatt » Mon Jan 11, 2010 1:39 pm

Hi All

I'm planning to apply for the schengen visa for germany upto 90 days(short term). I will be going to munich in the month of feb.

I have other travelling plans for rest of the year also (schengen countries during bank holidays) ...how can I make sure that i get visa upto 90 days and not only for my stay in munich which wud be only 3 days. I have not booked tickets yet !

I got schengen visa in dec 2009 for prague for only 8 days. Would that help?

suggestions??

Besides showing proof of your intent to return, sufficient resources and travel insurance for the period, you will have to give them a good reason why you would like to have the full 90 days.

Why do you need the full 90 days?

You may be asked to apply separately for each trip.

My partner recently got a 90 day one from German Consulate and we thought it was a bit mean seeing as how she'd had two Work Permits in Germany recently. Seems she did quite well!

Definately worth taking a chance!

My friend from Munich(germany) is sending me an invitation letter. I'm wondering what does she need to mention in the letter:=

Following is what i can think of:
1. Her Name with full address & passport number
2. I will staying at her address
3. Funds

Do I need to mention what dates I'm planning to travel??
Does she need to fax it to me with signature?
Am i missing something?

From what I've seen on these boards and personal experience, it depends on which Embassy you are applying to (German Embassy in London or Dublin) and what country you are from. My husband's experience of having applied 4 times at the German Embassy in Dublin is that they are absolutely pedantic, and will only give out visas for the EXACT duration of any flight bookings submitted, to the day! The last time he applied he had about 8 previous Schengen visas and it didn't make any difference, they still only issued it for the exact number of days. He had always applied for "multiple entries" but was only granted this once when he submitted evidence of 2 flights. Best of luck though!

It might get easier in the future. We can only hope.
As of April 2010 the Community Code on Visas will come in force with
more detailed instructions, replacing all preceding regulations.
We can only hope, the EU Embassies read their own instructions.
Chapter IV
Issuing of the visa
Article 24
Issuing of a uniform visa

2. Without prejudice to Article 12(a), multiple-entry visas shall be issued with a period of
validity between six months and five years
, where the following conditions are met:

(a) the applicant proves the need or justifies the intention to travel frequently and/or
regularly, in particular due to his occupational or family status, such as business
persons, civil servants engaged in regular official contacts with Member States and
EU institutions, representatives of civil society organisations travelling for the
purpose of educational training, seminars and conferences, family members of
citizens of the Union, family members of third-country nationals legally residing in
Member States and seafarers, and

(b) the applicant proves his integrity and reliability, in particular the lawful use of
previous uniform visas or visas with limited territorial validity, his economic
situation in the country of origin and his genuine intention to leave the territory of the
Member States before the expiry of the visa applied for.

Thanks for the link Acme! A bit worrying though how vague that document is, e.g. this paragraph:
{8)Provided that certain conditions are fulfilled, multiple-entry visas should be issued in order to lessen the administrative burden of Member States' consulates and to facilitate smooth travel for frequent or regular travellers. Applicants known to the consulate for their integrity and reliability should as far as possible benefit from a simplified procedure.
What exactly would you have to do to get this. I can imagine trying to convince any particular embassy that due to your history of many schengens and continued adherence to the dates should allow you to get a multiple entry visa :(

I don't think the Visa Code will bring anything new regarding this issue. Bona fide visa have been issued before.
