English Language Skill

Post by silversurfer » Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:55 pm

Dear Friends,
Is it mandatory to produce Bachelor's degree as evidence of english language skiils? Can Master's degree not used?

Following is what is written in caseworker guidance :-
Can higher education qualifications other than Bachelor degrees, which have been taught in English, be accepted in this category?
No. Degrees higher than Bachelor level, such as Masters degrees and PhDs, are not acceptable in this category, for the following reasons:
• students of degrees higher than Bachelor level are not necessarily required to practice listening, reading, writing and speaking in English as in Bachelor degrees;
• the duration of courses may be less than that of a Bachelor degree, which is three years of full time study

Those were old rules I believe.

The Tier1 Policy Guidance says '185.An applicant may provide evidence that he/she holds a degree which is equivalent to United Kingdom Bachelors level or higher and which was taught or researched in English to a particular level as evidence of his/her English language ability.'

So, if your masters degree is in the PBS calculator and gives you points for English language requirement you are good to go just with masters degree.
