Form NTL, procesing times and old passport

Post by clizzywizzy » Mon Feb 22, 2010 9:43 pm

Hi there

I have a ILR visa in my old Kiwi passport, it has no blank pages left so I just got a new one. Couple of questions,,,

1) DO I HAVE to get my ILR transferred to my new passport? or will i be able to go on hols and return several times with BOTH passports? Does anyone have experience of this? is there any grief at customs if I do this lots of times and not just once?

2) If I send off form NTL does anyone know how fast they are at the moment?

3) the form states "evidence of residency" are bank statements, credit card statements etc OK? I dont have mortgage or utility bills...they are in my partners name!

MANY THANKS

Only if you wish to. Carry both passports whenever you travel, no problem!

Read Transferring your visa to a new passport.

Thankyou very much!! I read that bit and ......

....but then it says this

"You do not need to transfer your residence permit to your new passport. If you choose not to transfer your permit, you should carry both your old and new passports when you travel to the UK - this will prove to our immigration officers that you have the right to be in the UK. If you cannot produce your residence permit when you arrive at our border, you may not be allowed to enter the country.

We cannot transfer your residence permit to your new passport at passport control when you enter the UK. If you can prove that you are entitled to live here, the immigration officer at your port of entry will put a date stamp in your new passport. You must then send us an application form asking us to place a residence permit in your new passport. You must be in the UK when you make this application."

IM CONFUSED>>> is it ok to travel more than once?

I kind of begrudge spending £165 to transfer it....its not even a year old!!

Essentially meaning that you must carry both old and new passports everytime your travel.

Means that you cannot ask an IO at any UK airport to transfer your visa to a new passport. If you need to get a transfer done(not mandatory), the only way to get ti done is to apply to UKBA for it. IO at airport cannot do it!

I will tell you my story my friend, applied for ILR to be transfered to my new passport, paid permium servise for the same day, I have to say I had changed my name on the new passport, was told to get a confirmation from the ebmassy about my new name as it is writtin inthe new passport, did that within 2 days (that was about 6-7 weeks ago), confirmed they last time I called them (last week) asked for an update, the person who I tspoked to said I have to wait a minium of 14 weeks IDEALLY, she said it could be more.....

Wouldn't it be simpler to become a British citizen?

By the way, make sure you have separate evidence of your ILR status (in case you lose your passport) ... the Home Office have a bad habit of losing files and any evidence you existed.

It would be simpler but if the person is anything like my wife, they possibly have no desire to become a british citizen.

Just for peoples information on time scales.

My wifes NTL came through (old passport to new) in 13 weeks and 6 days.

As an aside, the ultimate amusement/embarrassment for me as a Brit:-

I wanted to speak to someone about the wording on the NTL form as one of the sections says something like; refer to the UKBA website for time frames.

I did this and found that they currently have none published for NTL on their site.

I called them up and after a lot of persistence managed to speak to the UKBA "Policy" team via a very convoluted manor. They quoted me that as of this moment in time the UKBA currently have NO defined time limit for NTL applications.
None.
They can pretty much take as long as they like and the 4 to 14 weeks is merely advisory.

Even worse as of earlier this week the UKBA website doesn't even have a copy of their customer charter available (just a dead link).

To say i'm disappointed in the lack of professionalism is an understatement.

NTL form

Post by asim120 » Fri Nov 12, 2010 1:28 am

Hi,

I was granted indefinite leave to remain on a home office status document in August 2010 and I yesterday sent a NTL form with the following documents:

-Current passport
-Home Office status document
-Driving license
-Medical Card

I have however not provided rest of the documents i.e. Council tax letter, Tenancy confirmation, employment letter, Electricity gas bills, Doctor Registration Letter etc as I dont hav them.

Do you think they will ask me for anything else which I have not provided?

Please answer

I hope things went well for you Asim. I just found this forum a while ago. I too am in the process of applying for my NTL after having obtained my ILR about 3 years back.

The problem with me is that I didn't have a tenancy agreement for where I last stayed. By continues are they referring to the time between my ILR application and when I received my ILR stamp?

I do have a tenancy agreement covering the last 12 months or so but nothing to show for before that. I can get duplicate bank statements I suppose dating back to the date that I applied for my ILR if this helps. And I suppose I can get a letter from my Sister-in-Law who owns the property I was staying at before that. I do have a couple of random NHS cards referencing my previous address which I can attach to the application if needed. Is there anything else I need on top of that? I really don't have any council tax letters nor can I allocate my P45 forms for the recent years. I recently became unemployed so I have nothing to show for that either.

Also will my Form NQ be helpful in proving that I do indeed have ILR in the UK?

Thanks ever so much.
