Hi All,

I am from Egypt and currently living in Canada on permanent resident status. I studied in the US and moved to Canada. I applied for a tourist visa to visit the US right after I moved but it was denied saying I had lived in the US long enough to have more ties there than I do Canada and they feared I would enter and never leave (silly considering if that was the case I wouldn't have left). They said I could apply again after a year as I would have established myself in Canada.

Anyway, a few months later I got married to an American. Right now I want to come visit the US with her and have no intention of staying. I can apply for US immigration but I don't want to, I just want to visit. Can I apply for a B visa? I am asking because I have a friend in a similar situation who apply for a tourist visa and was denied because his wife was American and therefore he has the right to apply for immigration. Is this true? Is there a way around this? I am happy living in Canada. I would like to visit the US whenever my wife goes to see her family so its really annoying to have her go alone every time. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I've also heard stories about people in your situation being denied a tourist visa. The only thing you can do is to apply for a visa and see what happens. If you can't get the visa, then you'll have to wait until you become a Canadian citizen in order to visit.

I thought it was easy traveling between USA and Canada. Maybe you should apply for a B2 visa and see what happens. Whatever happens, you should write about your experience here so people in similar situations can decide how to go about doing things the right way. :)

It can't be easier than other ways of travelling, otherwise everyone would fly to Canada and try to cross the border from there. It's only (relatively) easy for US and Canadian citizens, especially the ones who live near the border.
