Lost documents at my wits end!

Post by lostdocuments001 » Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:25 pm

My biggest fear of my original documents being lost has come to pass.
They've asked for original copies of documents stretching over 30 years including my birth certificate, university degree, A level certificates, GCSE certificates, which they can no longer locate.

Permanently losing such documents is something I cannot accept, that is my entire life that has just been wiped out.

Is there anyone, any number, a direct line to an archive department, anyone that can help me locate these documents? Please, I am utterly desperate and angry beyond belief that this can happen.

I made a Long residence concession application based on the 14 year rule. My passport was sent back for me to renew it in order to take the Knowlege of Life in the UK Test, but my birth certificate and the rest of my documents were not.

I am in a quandry as I am unable to renew my passport without my birth certificate, so please is there any number (other than the UKBA standard number) I can call, anyone I can contact to locate my documents?

If UKBA says they can't locate the documents, IMHO, it essentially means that they have not found them anywhere, not even in an "archive department" (if such a department exists, that is). Apparently lost in the tons of heap!

It's your word against theirs - you'll say you sent all these documents at the time of application ... and they will refute that claim saying they never received them with the application.

Do you have any confirmation from UKBA with regards to this application which states that your documents are / have been received in order?

One things you can try is to try and speak to the caseworker (if you can get through to him/her) directly to get some details on the matter!

Maybe this is really obvious, but have they said the documents are lost or have they just kept them while you get some administrative steps done (renew passport)?

If you make a SAR request it might have information about your documents as well. For example, mine had a statement about my HSMP application and some of the documents "being referred to supervisor" to confirm some detail which implies that they held the documents at some point (if they later said they had never received them).
