Spousal Visa Application - Finances & long distance rx

Post by g343435 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 7:05 pm

Hi there,

Apologies if this has already been asked and answered but I cannot find answers after spending hours reading posts here.

I'm Irish, I married my Thai wife recently and we are gathering documents together for a spousal visa application. My question is how much should I have in my bank account? I have a decent job with a salary of 60k.

The other worry is the proof that our relationship is genuine.

Although she has never lived here, I have visited her half a dozen times since our relationship started in 07 and remained in constant, daily contact since then. And i mean daily! Should we worry that they might think we are not genuine?

Thanks in advance

There is no set figure regarding bank statements more than 2-3k is enough IMHO since it will be your current account money fluctuates. Obviously you went back and forth to Thailand you have immigration stamps on your passport to show for, that is proof enough also photographs and your mobile/phone bill showing long distance call.

Thanks for that. It says in the link that the waiting period is 12 months. I understood the visa application took up to six weeks. Am I incorrect?

Also, she was going to apply through the embassy in Thailand. Again, in the link it says you can only apply through Dublin. I'm wrong again?

It is upto 12 months for applicant who are in Ireland and don't have permission to stay their cases are taking that long. Applicants who do have permission can walk in without prior appointment and can get their stamp/visa the same day. You can submit documents here if you like but it is better to apply in Thailand since there is a proper Irish embassy there, once your application is complete i don't see why you wait 12 months for it...unless others like to add/suggest.

No - the 12 months is for undocumented migrants already in the state. Should be 6 weeks if you provide all the documents they're looking for. Just show anything and everything to prove your relationship is genuine - obviously proof of all the contacts you've had, especially in person contact, but also phone, email, letters cards(if they're not too private!) etc. You have to document and prove every stage of your relationship history. Don't be too worried about the cash, just show all you have.
You should try to show why and how your partner is unlikely to be a burden on the state - eg would she be able to work, or will you support her to study so that she can then go on to work?

ok, thanks. Glad to have cleared that up regarding the six week wait. Although on another forum I have read that as of last October, there was a 12-16 week wait because of a backlog of applications. I don't know what it is now though. Yes, she should be able to work here, as her profession is actually in short supply here. She just has to complete some short courses and exams. Ok, I will document that I have the capacity to provide for that.

Regarding the relationship history, we have forensically went through all communication and have reams of paper showing logs of chat, emails, txts and skype calls. (we think!)
