Marriage & Spouse Visa

Dear All,
I am posting this question of behalf of my brother, who intended to get married to a British citizen. My brother is a Non EU, at the moment he is on his student visa and he is a genuine university Graduate.

He is in relationship with his British National Girl Friend since last 1 year and they are planing to get married soon.

Could any body provide a bit of information on How to proceed to apply to get married. Do you need an approval to get married ? what are the requirements to apply to get married in the registry marriage or church ? Are there any kind of requirements that need to be fulfilled before apply to get married.

Second Question: How could you apply for a spouse visa ? Any requirements ? How long would be the visa issued ?

OR any other relevant info would be greatly appreciated.

He doesn't need permission from the Home Office now that the requirement for a Certificate of Approval (COA) has been withdrawn. They will simply register to marry in the normal way in a church or registry office.
Following the wedding he can apply to switch to Spouse on form FLR(M) from within the UK, which will grant a further 2 year leave to remain. Under current regulations at the end of the 2 year term he will be able to apply for Indefinate Leave to Remain (ILR).
