When to apply for Naturalisation after ILR?

Post by madadireddy » Sun Apr 29, 2007 4:39 pm

I was granted ILR on 12 June 2006 on the day of application in Liverpool. In fact I applied for ILR 4 weeks before my eligibility. I have been looking for information in your varoius posts about applying for naturalisation. There is post which says that I should wait for 15 months after applying for ILR. I am confused. Is 12 months after obtaining ILR not enough? Can't I apply 4 weeks in advance like I applied for ILR?

I have taken my Life in the UK test.

Have you been in the UK for 5 years? I expect you have. Unless you're the spouse of a UK citizen, you apply exactly 12 months after ILR i.e. NCS/post on 11th June 2007 (or is it 10th?) As long as you were physically present in the UK exactly 5 years before the date the home office receive your application, of course.

You can apply before you complete 12 months on ILR but approving your case will be at the case worker's discretion. Not really worth the risk now it's so much more expensive.
