Category- married to or civil partner of a british citizen

Post by VVPP » Thu Jul 04, 2013 9:34 pm

Hi,
I am residing in UK since last three years and came to UK as dependent. Last year I received Indefinite Leave to Remain visa on the basis of two year stay with my husband. Recently my husband naturalised as British citizen and I would like to apply for naturalisation under the category of “married to or the civil partner of a British citizen”. As per requirement I need to be resident in the UK for atleast three years. However can you please advise this residential qualification begins after my husband getting the British citizenship or can it be any time spent in UK?
• June 2009: got married to my husband
• Jan 2010: came to UK on dependent visa
• March 2012: Me and my husband Got Indefinite Leave to Remain
• July 2013: My husband naturalized as British passport
• Am I eligible to apply for naturalization or I have to wait two more years to complete residential requirement?
Please advise.
Thank you in advance.

yes, you can apply now as spouse of a BC provided you satisfy the standard requirements.
