I have been UK as a student visa 10 years and got my ILR 20 OCTOBER 2013,My question are
(1)When can I apply Naturalization certificate?
(2) I have got Life in UK certificate which I did in 2012.
(3) What else document do I need to qualify for Naturalisation?

Hi Bhupal


Your application can reach the HO anytime after 19.10.2014, not earlier than that. In regards to the Kol requirement then you can send the notification letter if it was sent to you after your ILR application if not indicate on the application form that it was submitted along with your ILR application and was not returned, you still have to have a B1 speaking and listening qualification ( if you have a UK degree then it will be sufficient) just send the certificate to HO with the application

You should not have been convicted of an offence which is still unspent. You should not have more than one fixed penalty notice during the last 12 months of the application

Naturalisation is an easy and straightforward application

Thanks for your quick reply.As I mention before I have Life in UK certificate done in 2012.DO I have to get B1 Speaking and listening even I have got ABE (Association of Business Executive) Level 5 and 6 in Business Management from UK,which is equivalent to UK degree and recently I am doing Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management(Level 7) in London as well.

Hi Bhupal

Documents arrived in horrible state, envelope shattered and secured only by two long elastic bands.. lost for words. Going to check if anything is missing. In 2009 UKBA lost a couple of my P60s, P45s and other documents, some of which they returned a few weeks after my letter. There were still a few docs missing even after my request, so I won't be surprised if there is something missing today. It was shoved into an envelope that is way too small to take this kind of weight/quantity.

Edited: Upon checking the docs, nothing is missing. Obviously they retained the LIUK cert, the application form, payment slip and my covering letter.

Let's hope the letter from the council arrives soon, as I'm on holiday next week. A private ceremony would be ideal, does anyone know if I'd be able to get it within days? Also, I requested to have it done in another part of the country as I did not foresee it taking such a short time and would now like to move the ceremony to where I am. Has anyone done that?

A few things to note for applicants who are waiting:
1) I phoned the UKBA twice to enquire about my application while it was still pending. The information I was given the first time I called turned out to be completely wrong. I phoned on 24/4 and was told that my case was "awaiting review by a senior caseworker." I later learned, however, that a decision had been reached on 16/4 and the letter had been posted on 22/4. For some reason the person I spoke with had no access to this information (or chose not to tell me). So please take everything they tell you on the phone with a big grain of salt!

2) My local council failed to ever send me a citizenship ceremony invitation letter. I had to phone them 4 times to get a ceremony date. I eventually spoke to the manager and was told that I had initially been assigned a ceremony on 9/5, which I never received notice of, so they reassigned me to 30/5. I never received an invitation letter for either date. Just a heads up that if you don't hear anything from the council within a few days of receiving your HO letter, be proactive in calling them, as you only have 90 days from the date on the HO letter to attend before your eligibility expires.

Good luck to everyone who is waiting! It is surreal to be ending my immigration journey after all these years. I think I will probably cry at my ceremony.
