Hi
I have applied for Citizenship but they have only taken £851, Do they only charge ceremony fee once the application is successful?
Thanks

What do you mean by encouragement? I paid taxes, NI for last 10 years, only visited NHS for flu etc 3 times, why shouldn't people who are eligible to claim benefits claim them? we have invested heavily in this country not to mention more than £12k in UKBA fees, £12k for sub standard studies.

Any advice?

Post by totallylegit » Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:40 pm

Any last minute advice for me? I am due to attend my ceremony tomorrow at Hackney, but I do not have the letter from the Home Office. They never sent one (or it got lost in the post). I called hackney to ask if they had anything there for me a few weeks back and they confirmed that they did indeed have my certificate and were waiting for me to confirm my ceremony for tomorrow.

I am all set to go, but the letter from the Home Office has not arrived and Hackney have told me that I absolutely need it to attend tomorrow. I have called the 0845 number and cannot get a person, only advice to email (that is not monitored!). I have called the 0870 number and they say they can do nothing about it and I need to email- there is no one to speak to!

Anyone had a similar experience? Any way out???? so frustrating!!!

Naturalisation Application Timeline

Post by Tinglymeatcroydon » Wed Apr 03, 2013 9:34 pm

Doe anybody know whether I must be registered at my local council / borough while my application is being processed?

I have recently moved to my area and I am not yet enrolled onto Council tax, TV licensce and voters register.. I guess I can do it quickly but do I need to? I'm kind of, off and on at the moment at new address so not particularly keen to begin to pay council tax in a place that I am not fully resident. Happy to pay from June when I will be here all the time. If it can expedite 'anything' in terms of my application.. Id rather just go and sign up urgently so that I have absolutely no concerns... I guess it will be a reasonable action considering that the borough is involved with the naturalization process somehow. Would you recommend I get on my council database ASAP by getting on voters list & ohh.. beginning to pay council tax like straight away. It's a new build so we are still setting up etc and not yet fully resident. I have used this address for my application in fact, I got the postcode for my self addressed envelope wrong and I had to send an urgent letter to UKBA Liverpool just to update the postcode only. Newly developed properties often take a while to validate the postcode allotted- Somehow I had the wrong info per what our postcode will be. Shall I hurry up & pay council tax then? rush?

Hi congrats,
Where were you able to get a ceremony date so quickly? quite frankly i haven't yet looked at process for that. I am just looking forward to an Approval letter and then take it from there. I guess there is not much I need to do in parallel at this time right?

well,u can book a private one anywhere in London if u are in London or the nearest from where u live, but it could be very expensive,ie,private ceremony in Peterborough is from £115 to £200 and the one in Cambridge is £150,but if u are in the region of london the cheapest is at waltham forest council east of london and i think u have to call them to find out if there is spots available for u in the near future and then i think that they will probably ask u to contact ukba to let them know, because at the end of the day, their approval is key for u to attend the ceremony anywhere u want.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this forum, the waiting can be a very nervous time, you just have to be patient

I am annoyed with the Council which has given me a far away date for the ceremony, will probably have to cough up for a private ceremony as I will be away during the time allocated by the council. Good luck to everyone.

Call the main UKBA no, the 0870 they offer wide range of information, including Naturalization, tell the operator your problem, they should be able to do something about it
Try that, it might help, you never know
yeah, i did that too. then referred me to the 0845 number that advises emails.

Interestingly, I sent them an email and got an auto reply back with some FAQs and the first line was:
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ AS YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE ANOTHER RESPONSE

Great- thanks!

Thanks! I have called them and they have advised me to contact UKBA (which is impossible) so I am stuck! Called my MP but it is now 2 days away so I am not hopeful I will be able to attend!

I applied in January and had not heard anything from them for quite some time, even while others who applied after me were going to their ceremonies. I called Hackney Council to see if they had heard something and they said that they were waiting for my confirmation for my ceremony on April 5th- the letter must have been lost!

So I have confirmed and was still waiting for something from them- but got nothing. I called again today just to make sure it was all OK and see what I needed to bring on Friday. They have asked me to come with my passport and my letter from the Home Office . . . except this letter never arrived! I have called the number provided (0845 010 5200) and cannot get through to a person! when you navigate all the menus all you get is- 'all enquiries are now handled by email, please email us and we will get back to you within 20 days!'. But I need to speak to someone ASAP!

Does anyone have a number I can get in touch with these guys? Or do I really need that letter? Should the council have all the info I need?

I should have known this wouldnt have been simple! >:(
