Apparantely first letter had a type on surname but someone their side fixed and sent another one one day later
and finally everything was ok in their system. had to call them to ask if they have any issue with spelling in their system. They sorted it out themselves even before i called them

What a great feeling to finally get hold of the passport!
The online passport application is definetely way to go. It was quick, error free, cheaper compared to Post Office CS and best part is it tracks all status update.
For the grandparents section, I partially filled up with details I know and the rest were left empty with a note that "I dont have the complete details".

Date of receipt of interview letter: It never arrived! I contacted IPS on 22/10 and got confirmation that I could book the interview over the phone. Places were plenty and available (in the Reading office) from the day after but I wasn’t available until the 27th.

Date SMS received: 28/10/2015
Date of Passport Receipt: 29/10/2015 (for 2 of the passports) and 30/10/2015 (for the final one)

In summary, it was a quick and efficient service. All done within 2 weeks, but could have been even less if I were available to book the interview appointment earlier. Also, the online service worked very well and I can't see any reason to use "Check and Send"... unless you have a particularly complex and unusual case.
