I got email from HM that "A letter to arrange an interview appointment has been posted to your home address". Does anybody know, how long it takes?

It took 2 days in my case. If you are in a hurry to make an interview appointment, you don't have to wait for the letter to arrive -- just call the general passport adviceline 0300 222 0000 and ask them to give you your reference number and then call the appointment number 0300 222 1000.

I called them like 7 times, they said, due it is ur first passport, we can't give u any reference number.

Hi Everyone,

I've been chasing my application for ages now but the Adviceline are completely useless and simply say the application is "awaiting examination". I've even escalated the matter to my local MP and hope to hear some progress back soon.

Has anyone been able to contact the Liverpool office directly and speak to a caseworker? I've tried the following numbers but after being on hold for over an hour, nobody answers so I give up! Here are the numbers- 08456015107, 08456012058 and 01514716652.

Any suggestions on further steps to take are welcome!

Hi guys, took me exactly 6 weeks! just want to share my exp so far.

I called Durham many times in the first week of June, got the same robotic answer "your case is waiting to be examined".
Then on the 11th of June I got through to a very nice lady and told her about my travel plans in early July and that I was concerned that it will not be ready in time at this rate. To my surprise she then said she'll get someone to have a look at my application today!! Was quite skeptical thinking she just wanted to get rid of me.

Then the next day I called to check whether that was the case and I got a even better answer my application was completed and they gave me a ref to book the appointment!

So just keep calling them everyday to chase it up if you have passed the 4 weeks mark! i've spent over 100 pounds on my mobile phone bill!

Ok so I caller Durham yesterday and they said my passport application hasn't even been examined as yet. Told her my profession and she said they will get on it asap. Got a call this morning from an examiner in Durham telling me that she is just now going through my application and quoted my interview reference number. Then she said tell them at the interview that as soon as im finished they are to send my docs to durham and nowhere else as she will make sure it is done asap.

Wow that was quuck. If I knew I could have pulled the job card I would have ages ago. Its 4 weeks now since I applied and if I didn't it would probably be another 4. Got my interview for tomorrow at 1pm.

Seems as if most people that are getting interview letters didnt have their application sent to Durham. I applied in the 20th of May and still no interview letter. While others who had their applications sent to peterborough etc are getting quick responses. Lets wait and see......

My application has been posted to Glasgow on 16/05 for some reasons they transfer to Peterborough on 20/05 . still, no SMS, no interview letter, no returns of documments, yesterday called to 0300 222 0000 a nice guy told me no understand why my application take long time.. and expect call back today or Friday ... and this is Peterborough office.

am sorry about the long wait, i was in the same position. one day i went on their website to track my application and there is a part there that ask you for comment. just inquire about tor else about the progress on your application.

It has been almost 6 weeks for my passport and i havnt got any thing from passport office . I called them twice and they are still saying i have to wait for couple of weeks more and they are not giving me any clear picture . I dont know what to do .

Finally an update! On Monday I received a phone call from the passport office case worker who wanted to check if I want to have my title included on the passport. He said that he was dealing with my children's applications as well. And two days later we received both children's passports and my interview letter! This is the timeline so far:

Hi Lamijm i really dont agree with your statement because i applied and my application was sent to Durham, from the 30/04/2014, even though the response took nearly 6 weeks, i got the interview letter at last.

I think the below status says it all...

"New passport applicants who are required to have a face-to-face interview are being turned away from the agency's Durham office and directed to other sites in the North of England while no further interviews are being scheduled in London for the time being."



I have applied on 11th Jun, planning to travel by 9th Aug...thought it would be ok, now....

don't worry i believe that you would be able to get to travel, just keep your fingers crossed.
