Based on analysis from my colleagues, it looks that Home Office might process applications faster for EU citizens (around 1-2 months from the date of receipt) with PRs and for non-EU with straight forward cases, e.g. who studied in the UK (2-3 months from the date of receipt). If it takes much longer, it might be that they are doing some additional background checks.
