Anyway, didn't think much of this but didn't get the usual text "passport being printed" so I phoned the Peterborough passport office and the examiner said he is awaiting a form that is due to be sent back from the Manchester interview for him to complete/ check (15-20 mins) and it could take 5 days for him to receive this form from Manchester.
I travel frequently for work and really need the passport urgently. My next trip is quite soon and would otherwise require a visa but there is insufficient time to apply. It will be 6 weeks since application was made very soon.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Thanks in advance?
All i can say no genuine person has ever failed a passport interview. It is even difficult for a fraud star to fail.

Yes. You need to show a valid ID proof. Wait for them to fail delivery (generally DX) and then call them back to say re-deliver to different address maybe a work address.
They wont give the documents to reception either though.
Is the
British passport sent out by DX delivery or Royalmail special delivery that needs to be signed for?

I have my passport interview tomorrow. Is it possible to ask them to deliver the passport to another address - one that is different from the one specified on the application form?

Same thing happened with us.
Finally came to know that query was sent to referee.
Remember that letter goes to address mentioned by referee (most of the time they ask office address).
So immediately check with both referee and also confirm the address from referee and ask the them to check if they given office address!

Hi all,
My application details are as follows:
Passport for: Adult
Application Type: New (Naturalised)
Method of application: Postal
Date of application: 22/04/2014
Application received by IPS : 24/04/2014 (Durham office)
SMS received: 25/04/2014
Date of receipt of interview letter: Awaiting
Date of return of documents: Awaiting
Date of Passport Appointment: Awaiting
Date of Passport Receipt: Awaiting
I am really concerned as I am due to travel on 28 May and its been over 4 weeks since I submitted my passport application. I had specifically submitted a letter stating I am meant to travel on 28 May and requested the IPO to send my current passport with my prepaid special delivery envelope. I have been calling the 0300 number and all I get to hear is that the application is received and awaiting examination. They also transferred me onto the progress update team who said the same thing.
My question is do applicants like ourselves receive the current passport before the interview / British passport?
Responses would be really appreciated.
Regards
Abi82

I received my British passport today. I have a question under place of birth, it has the city I was born in and not my country is this correct?
My details are below, hope it helps someone.
Passport for: Adult
Application Type: New (Naturalised)
Method of application: Postal (Check and send)
Date of application: 7/4/2014
Date application received by HMPO 8/4/2014
Payment taken: 8/4/2014
SMS received: 11/4/2014
Date of receipt of interview letter: 2/5/2014
Date of Passport Appointment: 15/5/2014 Victoria, about 10 minutes very stressful for me (forgot a few things relating to application to do with which documents I provided for which step: ILR, British citizenship - I think because the whole thing has merged into one long process for me)
Date of return of documents: 17/05/2014
Date of Passport Receipt: 19/05/2014 (passport date 15/5/2014, same day as interview)

After two weeks of calling and emails, I finally spoke to a human (a very nice one) on a number I was given by the passport advice line people. I explained that I did not receive the interview letter so he booked an appointment for me. Hoping for no more talk to-ups.

What passport office was this ?
This was the Peterborough Passport Office. I searched for feedback and timelines for both the Durham and Peterborough passport offices, and picked out a Post Office where applications were directed to Peterborough and took that option.
