How did you come to know when your application was received by HMPO? I recently applied through Post Office check & send and they have only given me a receipt with a bar code reference. You would need a royal mail tracking number to find out when your application reached HMPO. Do we expect the post office to give us a royal mail tracking number as well?

I have the same time line and I haven't received anything yet. I think you get interview letter through post separately from your documents. If you paid extra for special delivery than your documents will be delivered to you and you have to sign for them, if you are not at home than you will be notified that they tried to deliver your documents.

I need to know how does the invitation letter comes to us and original documents returned?
Is it by RM or some other services? As my mails comes by 12 in morning.. I am living in sharing house, dont want my originals to end up lost?
I cant stay home full day. i have paid extra for return of org docs.

Yes. They will ask you for the reason, if you book far-away office. If you say, waiting for the passport for travel booking, they won't say anything.

I called the Liverpool office and the kind lady I spoke with was kind enough to give me my application ref, so she said to call 0300 again and request a call back and I am expecting someone to call me back in 48 hours , for the second time![/quote]

Update. All documents received after 2 weeks of panicking, many calls and correspondence (all in vain as they can just tell me my application is being processed, even though I now realised I called on the day that my documents were actually sent out!)

Am getting worried as I haven't heard back re my application. Have called several times to enquire about it, and all they can tell me is that the application is with the examiners. A gentleman told me that if I haven't heard back, then all is in order and it should be with me in 6 weeks. I need to travel 1 May, and really need my passport back before then. 6 weeks will be up 23 April and would be great if I get back my supporting documents by then, but worried if I don't. Especially as I have not received any communications including need for an interview. Another shout out to anyone who has applied first time from abroad and can share their experience please?

Update: called on 3 April to enquire, as am planning local travel and wanted to plan around my interview dates. I was told that they can only tell that it is with the examiners in Liverpool office, and not sure how long it would take. I need my original passport back before 1 May.

Has anyone else applied for first passport whilst abroad? How long did it take you to get the first interview and subsequently to get the passport if you pass the interview?

I had an passport interview last Saturday, all went well, had a nice chat in relaxed env., however struggled with some questions like my daughter's nursery teacher. So if anyone's got kids going to nursery and school, make sure you know their names up to the heads. Apart from that, pretty same questions as you've seen on this forum.
