Update: Does anyone know the telephone number for the Peterborough passport office................I still haven't heard anything. I called the 0300 tel number and they confirmed that m application has been received but the Peterborough office is dealing with it. I was promised a telephone call back within 24hrs and today is the 4th day....still waiting impatiently.

My timeline is as follows:

Application Type: New
Method of application: Post Office Check and send (Bad Experience, cannot recommend anyone to use this service)

Date of receipt of application by IPS : 07-March-2014
Date of receipt of SMS: My wife received text message on 07-March, but me & children didn't get any text. I called HMPO many time but they didn't had any information until 15-March they confirmed that they have our application under examination
Date of receipt of interview letter : 20-Mar-2014 dated 18-Mar-2014
Date of return of documents : Waiting..
Date of interview appointment : 24-Mar-2014 (Luckily I got the appointment on 24-March in Leicester office)

Hi, nmm, that is great! I guess you sent your application to Peterborough as well. I sent my to Durham office on 5th March and it seems that Durham office is far more slower than other office to process the application. Maybe could be a reference for future applicants.

I would agree to both your observations-

1. Passport check and service is really dependent on the knowledge of the person serving you at the Post Office. I had to help the person serving me to ensure my docs were fine and placed well.

2. My application date is same as nmm, uknotts and TTOE and they probably sent to Durham office, I haven't received any letter or child passport until today (may be the south of England is too far to reach to )

u got ur approval for naturalization did home office they called ur refress about ur character...

I used my manager as the main referee in both naturalisation and passport, he was not contacted in either case. If he was, I would have come to know immediately.

I hope it comes in soon.... but shucks today my concierge office is closed... so wont get any mail today... incase yesterday Secure Delivery guy came in yesterday and dropped a card as I was attending my interview!!!

So the final wait continues...!!!

But people there is news for all, in case u have received ur original Passport back, and u need to travel and cant wait for british passport to come through...u can travel on ur other passports with ur ILR card as that continues to remain valid Irrespective of your Citizenship Status... so if anyone has an urgent / emergency travel and his original passport is back, you can travel on it... this was confirmed by the HMPO officer yesterday...

Good question tobeukcitizen. The reason I am planning to go for PIO is:

The HCI website mentions estimated processing times as 2-4 weeks, and 4-6 weeks in exceptional cases. This is confirmed by various timelines on the forum. Also, I do not know for sure, but again from the forum it looks like in the case of PIO they stamp a date for you, when you can expect to get your PIO card. This is very important and this helps me plan my trip better.

OCI on the other hand the website says within 6 weeks, but in the past I have seen this go upto 2-3 months.

I have to travel to India urgently as my mother is not doing too well, so I am trying to get the quickest visa possible to get there. I am going to be working from India for my UK company for sometime, so I cannot opt for a visit visa (IMO working on a visit visa is bordering on illegal).

Lastly, PIO->OCI is quite cheap, so not loads of money lost in the process.

The fast track appointment was really strange, it was in peterborough, and the person responsible kept forgettting to take vital documents, and I had to remind him more than once. I just hope there is no glitch with the little one's passport.

No problem TTOE, update from my side, I was home for lunch when there was a knock on the door, and a very hefty truck driver like DX worker dropped off both the passports for us, contrary to what I heard on the group, he took my signature, noted details like the color of my front door etc etc, very thorough. So finally our passports are here, now to surrendering our Indian passports, and applying for PIOs for the family.
