Passport process was much better than I anticipated. I have a long name and I wrote a cover letter explaining my preferred short name. They still show your full name as an obsevation.

However, TNT delivery is awful. They tried to deliver on saturday, but despite being home, they didn't even bother knocking on the door. I ended up arranging a collection from their depot on monday to avoid further dissapointment!

So, once all procedures have been completed (application submitted and identity checked):

• Roughly a month after documents confirmed as received by HMPO, British passport received (FYI, I tracked the delivery of documents and Royal Mail confirmed they reached the passport office on a Friday, but HMPO only confirmed them as received on the Tuesday after that).

• 11 days after British passport received, original foreign passport and naturalisation certificate received.
