A 2nd class letter arrived today asking for £3, for the secure return of supporting documents. I've sent the credit card from and it mentioned that they should charge correct amount.

Called advice line and paid £3, but the lady thought I shouldn't be paying for this because I am applying for the 48 page jumbo and the secure return should be included. She offered to call the passport office and ask for clarifications but they were not answering.

The letter contains a direct number for the examiner and I've called myself. Just told them it's been paid and asking if anything else needed.

Let's see. It takes 3 days for a 2nd mail to reach London from Peterborough....

I don't get it. We are paying £70 or £80 but they can't squeeze 10p out from it to send a first class mail.

I was told at the Leeds office that all the paperwork was being sent to the regional office that afternoon by special courier and that it wouldn't delay the processing at all!

Have you been able to check your post today yet? I'm not home until the evening, so have no idea if it has come today.

Yes We had it on 25th Thursday. at reading office.
If they have to send pictures back to passport office for comparisons then this may explain the delay. i.e. time taken by second class post from Interview offices to Passport offices.

As far as I know, they only take pictures when the computer system is down. They do this, so they can send the photo off for it to be checked against the one you supplied, since they can't access it on their monitors.

They will use the one you supplied yourself, as the polaroid photos they are taking at the interview are bad quality and not conforming to their requirements.

My wife had her photo taken. and answered were recorded on a paper.
very short interview indeed. So frustrating that we have been short changed while most of the time it takes 2 to 3 days max.

Out of curiousity , Do they only take photo when system is down ? or they take it any way, and which photo is used on the passport itself the one you provide or they one they take

We are in the same situation. Went to reading on 25th and was told systems is down. entire interview was less than 10 minutes. Still waiting for the passport.

Hi

I went to Chelsford interview office on 26th July 2013 and received my passport on 30th July 2013.
I was not informed of systems being down but I remember the lady writing information on piece of paper so I am not really sure.

Don't worry yours will definately come through - it's just a matter of time. Afterall they do say 7 -10 working days.

(chucked through letterbox by courier I think, just saw a car drive off they didn't knock)

A bit of advice:
Use PO Check & Send, they pick up on mistakes you've missed.
Don't worry about Passport Interview it's an informal chat simply to psychoanalyse you in case you're commiting Identity fraud. I answered a few questions incorrectly like my dad's DOB & avoided acknowledging my defaulted credit/loan out of embarrassment. At end of Interview the guy thanked me for coming, handshake & said I should expect my passport in a few days.
