looking at the cases here, the duration seems to commensurate with the complexity. I'm guessing they process straightforward applications very quickly. If there's a slightest doubt, e.g. minor misspelling then they remove the application and chuck it into a different stack that requires someone more senior to look at. This is what seems to be causing some applicants to wait much longer.

you are right, may be some people playing here with different ids, seems suspicious to me too.
What would be the intention of people who do that?? and what do they gain?
To make ppl more worried that how comes some got within 2 weeks while they are waiting longer than them.

Hi guys. I applied for naturalisation on the 29th of October and I am still waiting for my approval. There was a mistake in my English test certificate my name was spelt correctly but my surname was missing an 'i' at the end. I was advised to just send the application before it's christmas and that I won't be a problem but I have a feeling it's the reason why I haven't received my approval yet. The worst part is that my sister sent her application in the same time as me (in the same package too) and she hasn't received her approval yet although all of her documents were correct. Has anyone experienced this before or able to guide me on what I need to do? I am worried that I'll have to wait for a year just because of that foolish mistake.

Thanks!!

Alot of people on here pay the extra fee for NCS. But it doesn't necessarily make it faster. I sent my app via post next day special delivery (~£7) and received the approval as fast as anyone else that paid the extra for NCS. I don't see the point of it unless they give you back your original passport and allow you to leave the country during your application? If that's what it allows you to do, then definitely its something you should consider. If not, then use the money you saved sending in the application yourself for a nice meal to celebrate its approval when the time comes.
Most of us don't apply through NCS because it's fast(it's not fast in anyway) or that they check the application to make sure it's valid. I saw someone last turned away by NCS as his wasn't eligible to apply due to recent changes. NCS has saved him £906.
Main purpose of using NCS is that you get the keep your original documents. You don't need worry if they get lost or if the application takes forever. I think it's worth it for £56.
£56 isn't the standard price. Every council charges their own price. I paid £78 for mine. Also, not all councils will accept applications from other county residents. You could phone around to find another NCS that charges slightly less; but it's not worth the effort. It'll cost you more than £20 in fuel to drive to the next county anyway :)

Just to add on, Royal Mail Special Delivery doesn't cover loses for documents and even some electronic items like mobile phones aren't eligible for compensation in case they get lost in the post. It's better to use NCS to mitigate the risk of your original documents going missing.
Wow ...did't use NCS and now reading all this I wish I did. My only advance is I can use me ID to travel ...but still
One thing i want to share with you guys here that you can have your all documents back after 10 to 15 working days of your application by filling quick online form in home office website. I done the same and my documents were with me in 7 days after submitting the online request form.

Dear Imran,
Although I am newly register to this site but believe me my intention of letting people know is only to keep them encouraged not showing "trolls". I have been through a pain of waiting for no reason for nearly 8 months. I received the letter of 3-6 months additional delay due to scrutiny on immigration history whereas others were receving decision sooner. I was visiting this on daily basis to see if there is anyone who has received decision following the 3-6 month letter but I couldnt, therefore my intention was only to let others know that appearantly decisions are getting for delayed application. I believe this is the reason why everyone visit on this forum, however apology for any inconvenience occurred to you because of my post.

If I did not apply through NCS then I would not have been able to leave UK on short notice and attend funeral back home whilst my application was being considered..........the main advantage for me was that all my documents and passports were with me while I was waiting for outcome of application. This becomes even more of an issue if the application takes several months.
Sorry for your lost. Since you had your passport with you after the NCS check, did you still have to notify the Home Office that you have to leave on emergency or are you allow to leave freely during the application?
